The Walking Rings
Introduction
The Walking Rings of Breadalbane have been designed to provide pleasurable walks through wonderful scenery with the minimum of road walking. Each day’s walk starts and finishes in a town or village where refreshments and accommodation can be found. The walks may be done individually by using local bus services.
The routes are not waymarked, except where they coincide with existing walks or signposted paths, but are described in detail on the page for each day. We recommend that you carry a map with you (map and compass are essential for the Days 2, 4 and 5 of the Clan Ring). The Tay Ring is covered by OS Explorer 379 or OS Landranger 52. The Clan Ring is covered by OS Explorers 365, 368 and 378 or OS Landrangers 51, 52, 57 and 58.
The Tay Ring
The 2-day Tay Ring is an excellent introduction to Breadalbane and can easily be walked over a weekend. The route explores the magnificent scenery of upper Strath Tay – a broad, fertile valley with waterfalls cascading down its steep sides. It has superb views of Loch Tay and the surrounding mountains.

The Clan Ring
The 6-day Clan Ring offers some more challenging walking: three days are similar to the Tay Ring, while the other three climb above 550m/1800ft and require navigation skills on pathless sections. The route explores the southern edge of the Highlands, from where clans raided livestock from their Lowland neighbours, and passes sites of some of the fiercest clan battles.
